Commenting on SPT’s letter to Glasgow Councillors, Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP has said:

“People rely on Glasgow’s bus network, and it plays a crucial part in reducing the city’s carbon emissions – the decision by First Bus to default on so many services is really disappointing and a worry for people in Glasgow who rely on the service to get around. “I welcome SPT’s swift action to find new contractors and appreciate that this has had to be done at particularly short notice. “I understand First Bus have cited a lack of drivers as the cause of these service removals, but more should have been done to identify this problem and notify SPT of the necessary changes earlier. “Bus Companies should prioritise working with the public when making decisions about services to ensure that they don't leave communities cut off from the places and services they need to access.

“The Scottish Government must urgently consider what additional support it can give to SPT to make sure it can fill any further gaps created by bus companies axing essential services in favour of more commercially viable ones.”
